He expressed no doubt that being "an expert" both in the Legislative and Executive affairs, the former President would not only keep the legislative mill grinding, but would also help the Duterte administration solve its current problems, including the rising inflation.
"She is back in her element, kung ano pagkakakilala natin sa kanya nung presidente sya ganun pa rin at yung hinahanap nyang trabaho sa taong nakapaligid sa kanya ganun pa rin. Talagang sagaran sa trabaho (her working ethic when she was our President remains the same and she expects those people around her to be hardworking too. We are also expected to work our fingers to the bone) ," he said in a radio interview when asked about the former President's health condition.
He even cracked a joke that they bought coffee and mosquito coil, expecting their legislative work would end until wee hours during session days.
"Nagbibilihan na nga po kami ng kape at katol dahil puyatan mangyayari dito kasi professor eh," said Andaya, who served as Budget Secretary during the Arroyo administration.
He even noted that Arroyo showed her "brilliance" during her meeting with economic managers on Tuesday to address inflation.
"Nakita ko nung meeting nya with economic managers, akala ko nasa Malacañang ako, yung galing nya ay talagang pinakita sa economic managers (I witnessed her brilliance during her meeting with the economic managers. I thought I was in Malacañang)," the House leader said.
Arroyo described her working lunch with the economic managers on Tuesday as "a professor to professor discussion on the economy especially to address the inflation."
Arroyo is suffering from cervical spondylosis.
Cervical spondylosis is an irreversible and progressive spine disease, a degenerative disease of bones and cartilage of the neck.
She used to wear a neck brace until she became free from hospital arrest in 2016.
Arroyo was detained at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in November 2012 for four years after she was slapped with plunder before the Sandiganbayan First Division following her involvement in the alleged misuse of P366 million in funds of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) from 2008 to 2010. She was released from hospital arrest in July, 2016 after the Supreme Court acquitted her of plunder over the alleged misuse of PCSO funds.
Arroyo earlier pushed for the passage of the Duterte government’s corporate tax reform package.
