NBI arrests suspect in lawyer's slay

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested in Laguna a suspect in the killing of lawyer Joey Luis Wee in Cebu City last month.

“Nahuli itong si Fausto Cesar Peralta, yung isa doon sa pumatay kay Atty. Wee ng Cebu (Fausto Cesar Peralta, one of the suspects in the killing has been arrested),” said NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin on Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Lavin said Peralta was arrested in Laguna Tuesday night, Dec. 8, by joint operatives of NBI Manila, NBI District Office and NBI Cebu Regional Office.

Last month, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra issued a directive to the NBI to investigate the killing of Wee.

Wee was gunned down while walking to his office in Barangay Kasambagan in Cebu City last Nov. 23.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital but died during treatment.

Wee was believed to be the 53rd lawyer killed under the administration of President Duterte.
