Former MYMP singer, Juris Fernandez, admits she hasn’t talked with former musical partner, Chin Alcantara, for some time now.

And she's not in a hurry to patch things up with the guitarist either. Fernandez, in a TV interview feels, “it’s better if we move our separate ways na muna.”

Fernandez revealed that she already knew of MYMP’s new singer, Juliet Bahala, even before the band introduced her to the public.

“They told me about it so alam ko na lalabas din sila [with a new vocalist].”

Asked if she will be singing the band’s popular tunes at her concerts, Fernandez answered on the affirmative.

“Even if we [MYMP] have disbanded, definitely [kakantahin ko pa din]. Wala namang ipinagbawal sa akin…walang bawal na kantahin. ‘Di [naman din] maiwasan na some people [would] request [for those songs] during gigs kaya okay lang…”

Fernandez is currently busy wrapping up work on her solo album. She had just held a concert with bossa nova singer Sitti on Feb. 10 at the Metro Comedy Bar along West Avenue in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, in a separate interview, Alcantara acknowledged that there is still tension between him and Fernandez.

According to Alcantara, Fernandez’ resignation from the group —a far cry from what Fernandez claim is a break-up or disbandment— was due to a “simple misunderstanding.”

"Normal lang naman 'yon [na may misunderstanding], lagi namang ganun, magkaka-banda, magkakaroon ng tampuhan tapos maayos... Hindi ko alam na aabot sa ganito," the guitarist said.

Alcantara claims he has moved on from that “setback” even as he expressed wanton “excitement” over his band’s new singer.

“She’s really something. The first time I heard her sing… I couldn’t believe my ears.”

Although there are others who wanted to try out for the spot that Fernandez vacated, Alcantara was sold on the idea of Bahala taking over from day one.

The guitarist is a bit worried about how fans would react to the change though.

"So far, I have no idea how fans would react but there are those who are excited to meet her… just as there are also those who are still saddened with Juris’ departure. It’s mixed.”

Curious fans will have a chance to hear MYMP’s new singer on Feb. 12 in a pre-Valentine's concert at the Music Museum titled “MYMP Now.”
