“I’m glad to return to the Senate next year since I have a lot of unfinished programs. During my Senate stint, I passed 642 bills and resolutions. I plan to do the same if ever I will be reelected in the Senate,” Jinggoy said.
He submitted his certificate of candidacy on Tuesday at the main office of the Commission on Elections, together with former President and current Manila Mayor Joseph "Erap" Estrada.
Jinggoy is set to battle for a Senate seat alongside with his half-brother, Joseph Victor ”JV” Ejercito who filed his COC on Monday under Nationalist People’s Coalition.
“I requested my parents to accompany me. Hindi ko alam baka hindi siguro tinawagan ni Senator JV aming ama. I do not know,” he said.
On running alongside with his brother, Jinggoy said the votes will not be divided because JV used ‘Ejercito’ as his last name.
JV retained his 2013 campaign name “JV Ejercito” but included “Estrada JV” as his alias.
“Honestly I haven’t talked to him. I haven’t seen him for quite some time. I just see him on television, listen to him in radio,” Jinggoy admitted.
“Kahit anong pambabatikos niya sa akin, kapatid ko pa rin yan, isa pa rin ang tatay namin. Kung ako ang masusunod, gusto ko kaming dalawa mananalo,” (Even if he bashed me, he is still my brother, we have one father. If only I were the one giving orders, I want us to both win), he added.
It can be recalled that JV declined to talk about Jinggoy yesterday.
“Sorry but I don’t want to talk about other candidates. I’d rather focus on my platforms,” JV said.
Jinggoy vowed to introduce measures that will uplift lives of overseas Filipino workers.
‘PDAF scam will not affect my candidacy’
Jinggoy is still facing plunder charges and 11 counts of graft over his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.
“First time I ran for senator, I still have pending plunder case which was not resolved by the courts. It did not affect me since I won,” he said.
Estrada was released on bail in September last year after being detained for more than three years over his alleged role in the pork barrel scam.
Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino slate
Jinggoy was running under Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino party. “I never abandoned my father’s party,” JV said.
Jinggoy also said he endorsed Grace Poe, Cynthia Villar, Bong Revilla, among others to be included in PMP’s senatorial slate.
However, the 18 names are subject for Erap’s approval.
Asked on what is their common denominator, “We are people with integrity.”
