On September 23, the bridge was closed to vehicular traffic as it was supposed to start construction. It was reopened on at 9:30 p.m. Monday.
In a letter to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it was postponing the construction of the bridge that connects the cities of Mandaluyong and Makati.
"Due to public and apprehension of the business circle that the timing and closure will cause possible huge economic loss specially this holiday season, we are constrained to defer the implementation of the project," Virigilio Castillo, DPWH project director, stated.
The DPWH, instead, moved the construction date of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge to January 2019.
Around 100, 000 vehicles traverse the said bridge every day, as per MMDA General Manager Jose Arturo Garcia.
MMDA earlier announced that many roads and briges will be constructed this year, warning the public of heavy traffic congestion.
