Ex-President Estrada's condition slightly improves

(UPDATED) The condition of former president Joseph “Erap” Ejercito Estrada has slightly improved, his son, former senator Jinggoy Estrada said on Wednesday.

In an interview with Unang Balita, Jinggoy said his father’s condition is “steady.”

Estrada's vital signs are also “normal,” according to the former senator.

“Nag improve naman po ng bahagya…Tuloy tuloy ang treatment sa kanya (His condition has slightly improved…He is continuously being treated),” Jinggoy said.

Jinggoy said his father, who tested positive for COVID-19, is also being given Remdesivir medication.

The former senator said his father is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and on medical ventilation.

In a Facebook post Wednesday noon, Jinggoy said his father's "requirement for oxygen support is also slowly getting better."

Erap's kidney function has also started to improve, the former senator added.

"His inflammatory markers on downward trend and hopefully this signals that his immune system is responding well," the younger Estrada said.

The former senator asked for prayers anew for the fast recovery of his father.

“Ako po ay nakikiusap na sana patuloy niyo pong ipanalangin ang aking ama sa kanyang immediate recovery dahil alam niyo masakit sa aming lahat, lalong lalo po sa pamilya na di namin madalaw ang aking ama lalung lalo sa kanyang kondisyon ngayon (I am asking everyone to please continue praying for the immediate recovery of my father because it’s painful for every one of us in the family to not be with him during this time especially with the condition that he is in),” he said.

The former president was rushed to Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) in San Juan on March 28 after experiencing body weakness.

On April 6, Jinggoy said Estrada was transferred to the ICU after the former president’s “pneumonia worsened” after contracting COVID.
