Red Bull Racing swept the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last Sunday with Sebastian Vettel leading Mark Webber in a one-two finish. Brawn GP’s Jenson Button finished in third place earning for himself his second podium in the second half of the season.

Vettel’s win also confirms his second place position in the Driver’s standings with Rubens Barichello claiming the third spot.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton who started from pole had to retire early in the race after being plagued with brake problems.

Earlier, Hamilton had been tipped to dominate the race after leading both practice and qualifying sessions. At the start, however, Hamilton was unable to get away from the two Red Bull drivers and was struck with brake problems forcing him to retire.

Both Brawn GP drivers were also able to match Hamilton’s pace, with Barrichello falling behind Button on the opening lap after losing a chunk of front wing in a Turn 1 brush with Webber.

Hamilton stayed in front of Webber at the first stops, but Vettel ran two laps further than McLaren and was able to emerge with a comfortable lead.

Two laps later, Hamilton was ordered to retire from the race after engineers decided that it was unsafe to allow him to continue due to his brake problems.

With Hamilton retiring, that left Vettel free to cruise to an untroubled victory, with the German stretching away from teammate Webber and winning for the fourth time this year.
