Five more persons were reportedly killed in the Bicol region as Tropical Storm "Dante" (international name: Kujira) continues to move away from the country’s area of responsibility, according to the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) in Region V.

Raffy Alejandro, director of RDCC in Bicol, said the five still unidentified bodies were recovered among the rubble in Brgy. Hubo, Magallanes, Sorsogon, bringing the total number of casualties to 26.

"I am not expecting (more casualties). It’s only Magallanes that has many casualties because of the landslide," Alejandro said in a phone interview Tuesday.

Heavy rains brought by "Dante" have resulted in a landslide that killed 21 people in Sorsogon province, including two-month old Nica Rose Habitan in Brgy. Gabao, Irosin; Rean Krista Coronado, 1; Renz delos Santos, 5; Charles Hilab, 7; Catrina delos Santos, 8; and Rennel Guardacasa, 11, in Brgy. Hubo, Magallanes.

In Camarines Norte, soldiers from the Army 901st Infantry Brigade recovered the bodies of Jason Mercado and Joel Acal, 19, who both drowned in Labo and Mercedes towns.

Purificacion Villamero, 61; Joy Villamero, 28, from Brgy. San Antonio, Poblacion in Camarines Sur and Domingo Torio, 85, from Small Viga, Catanduanes also died after they were electrocuted last Sunday.

The regional disaster director also noted that five others were injured in Sorsogon province.

Damage to infrastructure is placed at P127.700 million including roads and bridges in Catanduanes, Sorsogon and Masbate while an estimate of P170, 535, 101.26 worth of agricultural lands were destroyed in region 5.

About 43, 216 families or about 236, 892 persons are housed in 220 villages in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon and Catanduanes.

Alejandro said Defense secretary Gilberto Teodoro ordered the relocation of 186 families situated in the landslide prone area in Sorsogon.

"Not rehabilitation because they are needed to be relocated... (since) they are in a landslide prone area," Alejandro explained.
