200 CIW inmates get 1st dose of COVID vaccine

Two hundred persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City have been injected their first vaccine dose against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a statement, CIW said it “collaborated with the City Health Department of Mandaluyong to administer the first dose of vaccination of PDLs of this institution on Aug. 03, 2021.”

It said that majority of those vaccinated are senior PDLs “who had given their consent.”

It also said that “the facility, under the leadership of Corrections Technical Senior Superintendent Virginia S. Mangawit, decided to collaborate with the city government of Mandaluyong in getting the female inmates vaccinated since “not everyone can get the COVID-19 vaccine.”

“Vaccinated PDLs were extremely grateful to CTSSupt. Mangawit under the leadership of the Bureau of Corrections’ Director-General Gerald Q. Bantag as well as the City Health Department of Mandaluyong, for enabling them to obtain the vaccination,” it added.
