ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Zamboanga Station officially turn-over Saturday afternoon to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) an apprehended vessel which was caught by its personnel off the high seas of Southern Philippines carrying smuggled goods from the Malaysian border.

PCG District South Western Mindanao Commander Capt. Joseph Coyme and Zamboanga Station chief Lt. Commander Noriel Ramos handed to Zamboanga Customs Collector Lyceo Martinez the pertinent documents turning over M/V Fatima Shakira to their custody for proper disposition and the possible filing of appropriate charges in court against the ship operator and the consignee of the smuggled goods apprehended on board.
Coyme and Ramos also handed the official inventory of some 1,642 sacks of imported white sugar in 50 kilograms per sack which was confiscated inside the said vessel.
Martinez lauded the PCG District South Western Mindanao for its relentless efforts to address such problem here in their jurisdiction, and in helping the BOC in the serious campaign.
“Kasisimula pa lang ng aming kooperasyon kasama ang Coast Guard sa kampanya kontra smuggling dito sa ating lugar, ito ay alinsunod sa directive ni Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña nung pumunta sya rito na pagsamahin main ang aming hanay para masiwata ang lahat ng smuggling operations ditto sa Southern backdoor,” Martinez said.
“This official turn over signifies the proper procedure and handling of all confiscated items from our custody to the proper authority which is the Bureau of Customs as a sign of our unified campaign against all forms of smuggling here in Southern Philippines,” Coyme said.
