Retired US Marine found dead inside his home
A retired US Marine was found lifeless inside his house today in Manila.
Identified as Roberto "Bobby" Sanchez, the retired U.S. Marine was discovered around 7:50 p.m. yesterday inside his own home at 1223 Miguelin Street, Sampaloc, Manila, case investigator SPO3 Richard Escarlan said.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim's neighbor, Roel Asuncion of 1222 Miguelin Street, received a call from Sanchez's friend named Ann Lim Domingo, requesting him to check on Sanchez since he was not responding to Domingo's calls.
Asuncion immediately responded, went to Sanchez's house and saw his lifeless body at the staircase with his face down. He then sought the help of a certain Jeremiah Gabrena upon seeing his neighbor's dead body.
Sanchez, 56, had been suffering from stroke and living alone despite his condition, said a close neighbor PSupt. Jaime Gonzales. No follow-up investigation has been conducted. (Hans Amancio)
3 persons aboard jeepney injured after part of gondola engine fell from building
Three persons, who were aboard a jeepney, were injured after a part of a gondola engine fell from a building in Makati City today.
Police identified the victims as Florito Torevillas, 47; Rochelle Balayas, 31; and Aljun Gorgonjio, 25. Meanwhile, gondola operator Antonio Arcilla also was reportedly wounded.
The part of the gondola machine, according to investigation, fell onto a traversing jeepney at around 9 a.m. along Buendia corner Tordesillas Street in Barangay Bel-Air, Makati. The building where the gondola was installed was the Shang Salcedo Place Properties.
The injured individuals were all rushed to the Makati Medical Center.
Vonotec Inc., the one in charge of the installation, maintenance, and operation of the gondola at the said building, was immediately given a stoppage order by the Makati Department of Engineering and Public Works.
The order stated: “This is to inform you that you have made an Illegal Mechanical Installation/Operation in violation of the provisions of the “National Building Code” (Presidential Decree 1096) and its own implementing rules and regulations.”
The order was signed by Enforcement Division OIC Engr. Julio Cepeda dated March 23. It was received by owner Benny Belnas on the same day. (Jel Santos)
Alleged drug user shot dead by unidentified man
An alleged drug user was shot dead by an unidentified man while on his way home in Navotas City early this morning.
Jonathan Sevilla, 23, vendor, of Barangay NBBS, died on the spot after he suffered a lone gunshot wound in the head, police said.
Initial investigation disclosed that Sevilla was traversing Halaan Street onboard a bicycle around 12:35 a.m. when the gunman shot him before fleeing toward an unknown direction.
Authorities recovered from Sevilla a sachet of suspected shabu.
Furthermore, 31-year-old Lory, Sevilla's sister, admitted to the police that Sevilla was a drug dependent.
However, police are yet to determine if Sevilla was included in the drug watchlist.
Aside from being a drug suspect, police are also looking into love triangle as the possible motive behind the killing.
According to Sevilla's sister, the victim was courting a married woman.
Follow-up investigation is now underway. (Kate Javier)
