Two Batangueño artists of Grupo Sining Batangueño will be featuring their individual style in painting in ‘Splash and Drip’ at which their artworks will be displayed at the Art Asia Gallery at Megamall Building A, Mandaluyong City. The display opens this Sunday.

The two-man show, ongoing until March 30, will showcase the Splash artworks style of Janddie Castillo, a native of Bauan, Batangas - splashing of paints with control and discipline to form something out of it; and Drip style of Nante Carandang from Tuy, Batangas- dripping of colors with the brush without touching the canvass and putting some textures to highlight the subject.
Castillo and Carandang have come up with the concept to show their creativity and imagination within their own style, a first time two-man show together as best friends and former classmates way back in 1995 at Far Eastern University Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts (FEU-IARFA).
Carandang is the founder of Pintor Kulapol, an art group in Tuy town which hosts art competitions and conducts free art workshops in Batangas and nearby provinces to bring back the community’s passion for art and to develop talented art enthusiasts.
Through art exhibits, they are able to sponsor art workshops and provide art materials to participants for free- just for the love of arts, said Carandang.
Pintor Kulapol started reaching out to the community in 1994 and the group had to sell its artworks to raise funds for the art seminars and workshops which they usually conduct during summer.
The group also hosts art competitions as part of the Kambingan Festival in Tuy, Batangas in August and in June as part of the celebration of the birth date of the nation’s hero and a cousin of Jose Rizal, Galicano Apacible from Balayan, an adjacent town of Tuy.
They also support some non-government organizations (NGO) and foundations in conducting art workshops or other art-related activities, said Carandang.
Last year, the provincial government of Batangas through the provincial tourism office aided Carandang’s group in an art competition in the first district of Batangas where Tuy belongs.
The group has been a partner of the provincial tourism office in promoting culture and arts in the province such as Lakbay Sining program which aims to bring arts and its appreciation to different municipalities and cities in Batangas.
