BI arrests 2 Chinese nationals with 'fake exit clearances'
Two Chinese nationals have been arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for presenting fake exit clearances, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Monday, Aug. 18.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado identified them as Li Jiangcheng, 29 and Liao Weibin, 39.
Citing a report from the BI’s Immigration Protection and Border Enforcement Section (I-PROBES), Viado said the two foreigners were intercepted at the NAIA Terminal 3 last Aug. 11 before they could board their flight to Singapore.
He said that based on BI records, Li, who previously worked in a tech company in the Philippines, has been overstaying since 2022.
In the case of Liao, Viado said that the foreigner worked in a trading corporation but has failed to update his visa since 2023.
He said that immigration officers found that the exit clearances of the two Chinese nationals were counterfeit.
Viado warned illegal aliens that the BI’s electronic data system ensures the verification of their immigration status.
“Everything is electronic now. Illegal aliens who think that they can use fake documents in this modern day and age are mistaken,” he stressed.
