In the middle of February, the world’s sartorial lens turns to New York as designers and brands put their best fashions for the fall-winter 2022 edition of New York Fashion Week (NYFW). From reimagined dressing and glamor-filled collections to colorful parades, we’ve listed down some of the best shows during the style fest that happened in the Big Apple.

CHRISTIAN SIRIANO

For his fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection, fashion designer Christian Siriano looked to the past to bring something chic and modern to the coming season. Dubbed “Victorian Matrix,” the runway show showcased his master design skills, presenting classic and period silhouettes in shades of blue, dramatic black, the very American denim, gingham, and PVC textiles.

“This name comes from so many references to the time we are living in—some days feel like we are living in the Victorian era, while others feel like we’re living in the matrix. What is real anymore?” the designer said in the collection's notes.

MICHAEL KORS

Presented at the iconic music venue Terminal 5 in Manhattan, Michael Kors’ fall-winter 2022 collection, "Urban Polish," is an invitation to step out, celebrate, and toast the night away. Playing with the art of revealing and concealing—of being both covered up and provocative—the runway included everything from short hemlines and thigh-high boots to dramatic hoods and skin-baring cutouts. Shades of camel, chocolate, and banker grounded pops of electric fuchsia, orange, and yellow.

“For this show, I wanted to bring the excitement and energy of a night on the town to life—because I think right now, no matter where you are, we’re all craving that,” said Michael Kors. “And the clothes are really everything you need for stepping up, stepping out, and making an entrance.”

CAROLINA HERRERA

Florals for fall? We think Miranda Priestly would approve. Carolina Herrera’s creative director Wes Gordon served the flower power the world needed today after the gloom of the pandemic as he looked at blooms for his latest collection, producing timeless pieces that are definitely filled with joy.

“The silhouettes this season are markedly linear and tailored, yet feature moments of exuberance like an undulating cascade, an enormous sleeve, or a color reveal at a hem,” the brand posted. “Bustier shapes are sensually and precisely cut, reinterpreted as fresh separates or daring beaded fringe.”

PRABAL GURUNG

Not shy about colors as well is Prabal Gurung. For his fall 2022 ready-to-wear showcase, the designer brought elements from Nepal and merged them with the urban style of New York. Vibrant shades were depicted in a parade of dip-dye knits, feathered mini dresses, cutout dresses, and sequined gabs.

“It was a love letter from the women of Nepal to the women here, who have been such supporters of mine,” the designer said.

COACH

Coach’s creative director Stuart Vevers brought ‘90s grunge and ‘70s street style to NYFW with his fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection. Titled “Somewhere in America,” the collection presented designs that are moody, edgy, and nostalgic. From baby doll dresses in a myriad of prints and leather ensembles to vintage-inspired tees and shearling coats, this line is definitely for the cool kids.

“My collections often begin with a feeling, and for fall, the feeling was love,” Stuart said. “I liked the idea of creating a nostalgic world somewhere in America seen through a widescreen lens, mixing the energy of today with the nostalgia for pop culture that has always inspired me.”

OSCAR DE LA RENTA

While many New York-based labels came back to in-person runway shows for NYFW fall-winter 2022, Oscar de la Renta kept its showcase virtual with a fabulous fashion film. No boring clips of models walking down the runway, the fashion featurette presented muses out in the streets wearing co-creative directors Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim’s semi-couture pieces while riding the train or working in the office because why not.
