KZ performed Lorde’s “Royals” but was eventually sent home in the Friday episode of “Singer 2018.” Fellow contestant James Li also didn’t make the cut.
Teary-eyed, the singer clad in green coat said her farewell to her fellow contestants, including British singer Jessie J.
“This is bigger than I have ever been. I never imagined I would get this far. I only wanted to stay for one show. I’m really honored to be on one stage with all of you. I will never forget this experience. My tears are a mix of happy and sad tears because I'm going to miss all of you. I hope to see you guys next time. I love you,” KZ said onstage.
Jessie J, whom KZ has looked up to ever since, gave her a big hug and inspiring words. The “Flashlight” singer has always been vocal about her admiration for KZ’s talent.
“You’re amazing. Let’s stay in touch, please. You really did a great job and you represented the Philippines, really truly,” Jessie J told KZ.
In an interview after her elimination, KZ shared her learnings being with singers from other countries, who share the same passion for music. While they speak a different language, KZ was able to connect with them and made friends.
“I’ve learned to accept that we have differences with the culture. Music connects people. All of those help coped up with homesickness and fear. The whole journey was not scary as I thought it would be because they were there,” she said.
KZ’s path in the “Singer 2018” started on the fifth episode where she ranked first after her unique performance of Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep.” In the following episodes, KZ performed a mash-up of Madarin songs where she placed sixth and also “Say Something” where she ranked fourth. In the March 9 episode, KZ sang Sheryl Crow’s “Real Gone” and placed sixth.
“Overwhelming response. We really never thought something like this could happen to me. I’m just really proud to be the first Filipino in 'Singer 2018,'" she said in a previous clip.
Ever since KZ joined the show, netizens and her fans have never failed to give her support, especially on social media. KZ took to Twitter to express her gratitude.
“I close my eyes because faith is seeing for me. I did everything I could, but the results are out of our control. I’m going home tomorrow with a happy heart. This won’t be the last time the world will hear a Filipino sing her heart out. Thank You Lord! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas,” KZ tweeted.
