Toyota Motor Philippines: 35 and growing

Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) recently celebrated 35 years of business in the Philippines. TMP’s foundation in August, 1988 finds its roots in an agreement between then-President  of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), Dr. Shocihiro Toyota, and Dr. George S.K. Ty, then-Chairman of Metrobank and eventually Group Chair of GT Capital Holdings, Inc (GTC),  to contribute to nation building through the business of automotive manufacturing and sales.

A SONA for all

It was all the news. The lead-up to it was hard to miss. The hype was extremely palpable. Yes, the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, Jr. (PBBM) was front and center all of last week.

Are you feeling the love? Love the Philippines. Why not?

I think that the newly minted slogan of the Department of Tourism (DOT) to promote the Philippines is a good one. But, of course, there will be 110 million opinions about it by as many Filipinos in our beautiful country. There isn’t really much to dislike about the slogan. It’s short, easy to recall, offers wide applications, it has a high emotional appeal and it captures the Filipino spirit of being a fun and loving people. But that’s just me. I suppose that the DOT and its partner agency did a lot more research and testing on the slogan before finalizing its choice.

PBBM: One year down, five to go

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. (PBBM) was sworn in as the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines on June 30, 2022. Indeed, the year passed quickly since the overwhelming tally of votes that swept him to office. Much has happened but, for me, it is what did not happen that matters more.
