Building better and more

Infrastructure development is the cornerstone of our economic development. I believe it has the power to transform our society by creating jobs, connecting people, and changing lives — a catalyst for holistic national progress. It is not merely an investment in projects but an investment in our people and the future of our country.

Empowering women for peace and prosperity

As promised in this column last Nov. 6, allow me to cover, in detail, the groundbreaking and insightful discussions and partnerships forged during the International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security (ICWPS) hosted by our country from Oct. 28 to 30. As the first Muslim Filipina Budget Secretary and the designated spokesperson of the ICWPS, I joined delegates seeking to empower women for inclusive and sustainable peace, especially in conflict-affected areas.

Strengthening PH’s sustainability

While in Singapore for the FinTech Festival last Nov. 7, I was honored to pay a courtesy call to Singapore’s minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Honorable Grace Fu Hai Yien, where I expressed gratitude for Singapore’s humanitarian assistance to our kababayans affected by Typhoon Kristine. I also had the opportunity to learn the exemplary practices of the office of the Government Chief Sustainability Officer (GCSO) under her Ministry, as we explored collaborative work for long-term resilience and progress.

Transforming PH into Asia’s digital hub

Last Nov. 7, I had the honor to speak on our country’s key investment imperatives in one of the event tracks of the Singapore Fintech Festival  (SFF), the premier platform for the global FinTech community to engage, connect, and collaborate on financial services development, public policy, and technology.  Organized by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Elevandi, and Constellar, with the Association of Banks in Singapore, SFF 2024 focused on artificial intelligence and quantum computing in financial services and FinTech’s potential in driving sustainable finance.

Empowering women for peace and prosperity

I am immensely proud of our country for successfully hosting the first-ever ministerial-level International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security (ICWPS) last week, from Oct. 28 to 30, 2024. With 80 United Nations (UN) member states in attendance,  this historic event commemorated the 24th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325. Themed “Forging Collaboration and Convergence for Advancing Women, Peace, and Security,”  the conference marked the Philippines’ leading role in promoting peace and security across the Asia-Pacific region.
