Dugo para sa San Juaneño: Bloodletting program for residents set on March 23
The San Juan City local government will hold a bloodletting activity on Saturday, March 23, aimed at promoting the positive effects of donating blood and increasing the supply of blood in the city's hospitals.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said the bloodletting program, dubbed "Dugo ng San Juaneño, para sa San Juaneño," will be held at the San Juan City Hall Atrium from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"Ang dugo pong inyong ihahandog ay malaking tulong para makapagligtas ng buhay ng ating mga kapwa San Juaneñong labis na nangagailangan nito (The blood you will be donating will help save the lives of other San Juaneños who are in dire need of it)," Zamora said.
Those who will participate in the activity must be 18 to 59 years old. Those who are 60 to 65 years old are allowed if they are regular donors. Participants who are 16 to17 years old are required to have their parent’s consent.
Donors under medication, specifically those taking oral maintenance medication for hypertension and diabetes, are allowed if their underlying conditions are controlled.
Participants with asthma may be accepted if they are asymptomatic and are on normal medication. Female participants must not be menstruating on the day of the blood-letting.
Participants must not have had tattoos, tooth extraction, acupuncture, and body piercings for a year.
Those with HIV infection, with or without symptoms of AIDS or Hepatitis, are not allowed to donate blood.
Participants must not have fever, colds, cough, sore throat, and/or loose bowel movement on the date of donation, and must have experienced no side effects or deferral from the Covid-19 vaccine.
To ensure a safe blood donation, participants are encouraged to have taken at least six hours of sleep, to not ingest alcohol within 24 hours before the date, and to eat and drink water or juice before the blood donation.
Other guidelines include: weight must at least 110 lbs. (approximately 50 kg); blood pressure must be between 90/60 - 140/90; pulse rate must be 50 - 100 beats per minute; and Hemoglobin should be 125g/L (1.25 g/dL) or the donor should not be anemic.
