Iloilo City unaffected by transport strike

ILOILO CITY —The nationwide transport strike on Monday, November 20, had no negative impact in this city.

Traditional jeepneys continued to serve  commuters despite earlier pronouncement by Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston)-Panay that all traditional jeepneys will join the nationwide strike against their eventual phaseout.

It was business as usual with some Left-leaning activists staging a protest outside the Iloilo Provincial Capitol.

Students and workers who commute everyday did not have a hard time getting a ride as the Iloilo provincial government and Iloilo City government provided free rides prepositioned in key transportation terminals, including  Tagbak and Ungka in Jaro District and Mohon in Arevalo District.  They were also prepositioned in plazas here.

Iloilo City was supposedly the first local government unit (LGU) in the country to implement the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) starting June 2022.

However, the full implementation of the LPTRP was suspended until next year as there were still concerns that were not fully addressed.
