Borja, Corpuz top IronKids

by Waylon Galvez SUBIC – Zedrick Borja delivered another sensational performance in the boys’ category while Samantha Corpuz ruled the girls division in the Alaska Fortified IronKids Saturday at the WOW Recreation and Activity Center in Subic Bay Freeport Zone here. Borja relied on his strength – swim – as he clocked 5:33 minutes in the opening 400m swim leg then held on for the victory, his second straight after he ruled in Vermosa last month. A native of San Pedro, Laguna, Borja timed 11:53 minutes in the run to finish with 18:20 for the gold medal in the 13-14 years boys division of the event organized by Alaska Milk. Miguel Tayag topped the run at 11:41 minutes but came up short as he finished second overall with 18:35 minutes, followed by Jose Maria Tayag, who claimed the bronze medal with 18:37 minutes. Corpuz, on the other hand, ruled the girls’ 13-14 with a time of 19:00 minutes, beating Lahainah Digermo (22:02.5) and Princess Patilan (22:16.2) in the event that ushered in the Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 presented by Big Boss Cement today (Sunday). Aubrey Tom also scored back-to-back wins as she topped the 11-12 division with 12:39, besting even boys’ champion Gabriel Lozada, who ruled in 12:43. Kira Ellis placed second to Tom in 14:02 while Gerice Oyaman came in third in 14:24.5. Daniel David placed behind Lozada in boys’ side in 13:20.7 with Rolando Escat Jr ending up third in 13:28.7 in the event also held to promote an active and healthy lifestyle among the kids. Other winners in the IronKids are Darell Bada (boys’ 9-10), Arthur Zulueta (boys’ 6-8) and Mikayla Salado (girls’ 6-8).
