Passengers, crew safe after airplane overshoots in Kalibo Airport runway

By Tara Yap Iloilo City—All passengers and crew of an airplane from Taipei, Taiwan are safe after it overshot the runway in Kalibo International Airport in Kalibo town, Aklan province early Wednesday evening. According to an advisory from Office of Civil Defense (OCD), all 121 passengers and seven crew members of of Far Eastern Air Transport Bravo B-28027 are safe and no one was hurt. Based on an initial report furnished by Police Regional Office (PRO-6), the incident occurred past 6 p.m. of March 13 at Runway 05 of the airport known as the gateway to world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town. The incident caused the shutdown of the airport’s operation for an hour-and-half, but flights resumed past 7:35 p.m. after the aircraft has been removed from the runway. As of press time, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is still investigating the incident. This is not the first time an airplane overshot the airport’s runway.  It has happened almost annually.
