Comelec turns to Twitter to help voters find polling precincts

By Leslie Ann Aquino With the Precinct Finder application in the official website of the Commission on Elections still not activated, the poll body is making use of Twitter to help voters find their polling precincts ahead of the May 13 midterm polls. “Dear Voters, the precinct finder on our website has yet to be activated. For the meantime, our platform here in Twitter is ready to help you find your polling precincts,” the Comelec said in their twitter account @radyocomelec. The Precinct Finder application was disabled prior to the 2016 elections, following the hacking of the Comelec website. According to Comelec, registered voters simply need to send a direct message (DM) to them via Twitter. “Just DM us the following full name (include middle name, not initial); locality, where are a registered voter; birthdate,” said the poll body. “For married female voters: kindly send full maiden name plus married family name,” added the Comelec. “We will get back to you as soon as we get the information requested,” said the poll body. Voters may also opt to visit their local Comelec office to check the certified voter's list. “Another way of knowing where your voting center and precincts are is to go to your local COMELEC office or identified schools to be used during the election,” said the Comelec. In the past, a voter can get the details on his/her voting center, precinct number, registration status, and even voters’ ID status through the use of the Precinct Finder of the Comelec.
