Diocese of Legazpi sets up quasi parish of San Pedro Calungsod
The Diocese of Legazpi in Albay has set up a quasi parish of Saint Pedro Calungsod in Bascaran, Daraga Albay.

Legazpi Bishop Joel Baylon signed the Decree of Canonical Establishment with the mission to spread and strengthen the spiritual life of the faithful.
The establishment of the quasi parish coincided with the 250th founding anniversary of the Parish of Our Lady of Gate in Daraga Albay.
Bishop Baylon said he wanted to create a separate parish for Bascaran, Alobo, Burgos, Gapo, Inarado, Kinawitan, Mabini, Tabon-Tabon, and Talahib to widen the faith base and mission of the diocese.
The said barangays used to be under the jurisdiction of the Our Lady of Gate Parish.
The Church leader said the Our Lady of Gate will now serve as the Mother Parish that will provide guidance to the Quasi Parish of Saint Pedro Calungsod.
“The faithful within the territory of the Mother Parish are called upon in their Christian duty to offer their unwavering support and cooperation. They are encouraged to assist their Quasi-Parish with their offerings and active participation, nurturing it into a true Christian community,” said Bishop Baylon over Radio Veritas.
A quasi-parish is equivalent to a parish. It is entrusted to a priest but not yet formally erected as a parish.
Records of the Catholic Hierarchy in 2021 showed that the Diocese of Legazpi has 49 parishes under its jurisdiction with more than 100 priests ministering to more than 1.5 million Roman Catholics
