More than 1 M COVID vaccines administered in Cebu

CEBU CITY – More than a million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have already been administered in the island of Cebu.

The Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH 7) welcomed the development of the island’s vaccination program as it came in the face of surging cases of new infections.

"This is good news. Slowly but surely, we are getting there," Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, chief pathologist of DOH 7, said.

According to the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC), 1,012,996 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered as of Aug. 11.

Of the total doses administered, 615,926 were for first dose and 397,070 for second dose.

Loreche said 22,000 individuals are being targeted to be vaccinated daily.

If more vaccines will come in, the daily target would increase to 29,000, Loreche said.

Cebu City has administered the most doses among the three highly-urbanized cities in the island with 316,401 followed by Mandaue City with 189,203. Lapu-Lapu City has already administered 160,422 doses.

The province of Cebu has already given 346,970 doses.
