6 detainees freed by religious cult Pinatikan from Davao Oriental jail

DAVAO CITY – Six detainees from the Davao Oriental Provincial Jail here were freed by a group allegedly belonging to a religious cult Saturday, Aug. 14.

One alleged member of the religious cult Pinatikan was killed in the incident.

A report from the Mati City police revealed that the incident happened at around 2:40 p.m. in Purok Maligaya in Barangay Sainz.

Based on the initial investigation, 25 fully-armed cult members forcibly entered the Davao Oriental Provincial Rehabilitation Center to allegedly rescue their cult leader identified as Cornelio Galon III.

The jail guards were alleged to have been caught off guard, allowing Galon and six other detainees to be successfully rescued.

Police identified the six other escapees as Dominador Lintuan, Laudeco Lintuan, Sugaan Gil, Arjowe Lintuan, Ranjay Baluro, and Inabitan Ismadi.

Records from Regional Trial Court in Mati City showed that Arjowe M. Lintuan, Dominador A. Lintuan, and his brother Laudico were charged for violation of the Republic Act No. 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Ismadi, on the other hand, was earlier charged for frustrated homicide, while Galon was charged for violation of the Republic Act 9516 or The Laws on Illegal/Unlawful Possession of Firearms.

The jail personnel retaliated and killed one alleged member of the cult. No identification cards were found from the fatality.

Mati police and military personnel are still on hot pursuit operation against the escapees and other members of the cult.
