Delivery boy arrested in Antipolo A water delivery boy tagged in the murder of a male clerk in Quezon City was arrested in a follow-up operation by police in Antipolo City on Sunday. Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director, Police Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel presented yesterday suspect Joven Evasco, 19, of Taguite Cupang, Antipolo City at the QCPD Headquarters in Camp Karingal. Evasco is the primary suspect in the killing of Salvador Alcantara whose body was found lat January 20 inside his rented room in Cubao, Quezon City. He was arrested in a follow-up operation by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) at around 4 in the morning at Marilaque corner Sumulong Highway, Brgy. Cupang, Antipolo City. Investigation showed that Alcantara's bloodied body was discovered at at 9:30 in the morning on January 20 by his nephew Val Benedict Gonzales, inside his rented room at 14th Ave. Brgy. Socorro, Murphy, Cubao, Quezon City. Gonzales immediately sought help from other tenants and reported the incident to the barangay officials who relayed the information to the police. Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered a blood stained kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon. CIDU investigators identified the suspect after reviewing CCTV footage from Brgy. Socorro which showed the victim and an unidentified man walking together at around 1:30 in the morning on January 19 along 14th Avenue, Brgy. Soccoro. The footage was shown to Evasco’s fellow water delivery boys at Zectra Gallon Mineral Water Station at Brgy. E. Rodriguez, Cubao. Evasco was positively identified by other delivery boys to be the person in the footage. They told the investigators that Evasco did not report for work since January 19. The suspect was contacted by his co-workers and convinced him to meet at the corner of Marilaque and Sumulong Highways in Cupang, Antipolo City twhich led to his arrest. He was brought to the CIDU in Camp Karingal for investigation where he admitted to have killed the victim apparently for robbery and estafa. Recovered from the suspect was a receipt from a pawnshop after he pawned the cellphone of the victim. (Dhel Nazario) Alleged drug pusher arrested in Mandaluyong An alleged drug peddler who was included in the drug watchlist, was arrested by the police in a buy-bust operation in Mandaluyong City Monday. Police identified the suspect as Jerdie Igancio, 41, of Barangay Mauway, Mandaluyong City. Police disclosed that Ignacio was included in the anti-illegal drug watchlist. Investigation showed that at around 2:30 a.m. Monday, members of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a drug sting against Ignacio at the corner of Sierra Madre Street and Libertad Street in Barangay Highway Hills. Police said Ignacio was arrested after an undercover cop was able to purchase a sachet of suspected shabu worth P500 from him. Two more sachets of illegal drugs were confiscated from his posession after authorities frisked him, police added. A case for violating RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against Ignacio. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas) Detained dies inside custodial facility in Parañaque An illegal drug detainee died after he was mauled together by three other fellow detainees inside the custodial facility of the Parañaque City Police Station on Sunday. The victim was identified as Benjie Baltazar, 23. Baltazar was under the custody of police for drug-related charges filed against him. The suspects on the other hand, was identified as Richard Baylon, 39, arrested for violation of RA 7610; Andrew Barba, 40, arrested for possession of bladed weapon; and Belmar Borja, 25, arrested for illegal drug involvement. Investigation showed that the incident occurred twice at around 12:30 in the afternoon and at 9 in the evening inside the custodial facility of the Parañaque City Police Station, in Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City. Police said that at 12:30 in the afternoon, the three suspects banded together to beat up Baltazar inside the custodial facility but was pacified by one of the detainees inside the cell. However, at around 9 in the evening, the suspects resumed to batter the victim until he vomited blood before falling to the ground unconscious. The said incident was reported to duty jailer who prompted to rush the victim to Ospital ng Parañaque for medical treatment but the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at 10: 07 in the evening.
