Director Phil Giordano shares thoughts on making films and working with Brillante Mendoza

Building his mark in the Philippine cinema, the 37-year-old American-Italian director Phil Giordano openly shared his experience creating the Pinoy flick "Pabuya."
The movie "Pabuya" follows the life of a gang leader, Pepe (Diego Loyzaga), who's being chased by his rival gangs, and the police, so he runs to his old flame, Bella, who he trusts.
According to Phil, making the film took him a lot of research, and it was quite a challenge for him to make the script.
"I did a bunch of research, and I was trying to tell the story in a very specific way. So there are a lot of great details that I didn't include, that I can include in my other film, but I want this story to be focused," Phil mentioned.

He also shared that meeting Mikhail Red and Brilliante Mendoza back in his early days has made him more present in the field of Pinoy movies.
"I met Brilliante in 2013 actually, but we became closer by talking more about films when we met at various film festivals, and then Mikhail Red is like a big influence to me," He said.
With their first film together "Pusoy", Brilliante gave Phil some simple advice when they started working, "Brilliante taught me to not be so precious," Phil added. He also recalled how amazing Brilliante is when it comes to working with the cameras on set.
Aside from creating films that involve crime and action, Phil is also open to making movies that offer other genres such as thriller, and theatrical types of movies.
From debuting his name on the Pinoy scene with "Pusoy", Phil also wants to expand his work on local film fests such as Cinemalaya and Metro Manila Film Festival. (Carissa Alcantara)
