QC to close down massage parlors, spas offering sexual services

(Mark Balmores/MANILA BULLETIN) Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte (MARK BALMORES / MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) Belmonte said his administration will continuously work with the local police in the intense crackdown on the illegal operation of “massage parlors and spas offering extra service.’’ She commended the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) for its relentless drive against spa and massage parlors offering "extra service" to customers in compliance with her directive. “We thank the QCPD for its untiring and relentless campaign to rid our city of illicit massage parlors,” said Belmonte. She ordered the QCPD to launch a massive crackdown against the illegal activity of some massage parlors in the city. She noted the intensified crackdown yielded more results recently with the raids and closure of two more establishments offering “extra service” to customers. Quezon City Police District Station 11 in Galas raided Intensecity Spa that serves as front for prostitution along E. Rodriguez cor. Hemady St. on Sunday, Feb. 16 where they rescued three female and three male therapists, one female receptionist, and three male personnel. According to Police Major Bernardo Pascua Jr., acting Station 11 commander, the raid was conducted with the Department for Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities (DWCPD), Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD), Social Services and Development Department (SSDD), Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH), and Business Permits and Licensing Department (BPLD). In his spot report, Pascua said the station received several reports from concerned customers that the said spa was used as prostitution den where female and male therapists offer extra sexual service. Authorities turned over four female massage therapists to the custody of the SSDD while appropriate charges will be filed against the registered owner of the place before the Quezon City Prosecutor Office. On Valentine’s Day, elements of QCPD Station 2, together with representatives from the DWCPD, SWCPD, SSDD, QCGH and BPLD, raided Inflorscense Spa along Roosevelt Avenue in Brgy. San Antonio. Lt. Col. Rodrigo Soriano, Station 2 commander, said they conducted the raid after receiving information from concerned customers that the establishment was offering extra service to its customers. Authorities raided the establishment around 10 p.m. after an undercover police officer posed as a customer and confirmed the illegal activity. Nine female massage therapists were rescued from the establishment while charges for violation of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2002 are being readied against the owner, Ivie Estor Haller, who remains at large.
