Jesus does not want us to collapse like the house he mentions in the Gospel.
We collapse in our faith when we do not have a strong foundation. This foundation results from listening to the Word of God and doing it.
Our faith is weak when we allow crisis to overtake us. We may waver in our faith when our loved ones abandon us, our favorite son dies, or we are laid off from work. Lingering illness or prolonged suffering can also make us doubt the existence of God.
To be strong in the practice of faith, we do not isolate ourselves and we exert effort to help the less fortunate, no matter what happens to us.
Gospel • MATTHEW 7:21, 24-27
Jesus said to His disciples: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven. “Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined.” SOURCE: “365 Days with the Lord 2019,” ST.
