Antipolo celebrates fiesta starting Dec. 7

By Nel Andrade ANTIPOLO CITY- The city is alive once again with sounds and colors as the Pilgrimage Capital of the Country City celebrates its fiesta this weekend. The city government has lined up a series of activities for the entire month as part of the Christmas celebration in this upland city of Rizal province. Early visitors who make it to the city proper at sunrise on Saturday, Dec. 7, will have the chance to witness a parade from the Ynares Center grounds to Sumulong Park. Street dancers representing various schools and groups, marching bands representing the city’s villages, and drum and lyre groups composed of student musicians will join city hall employees at the morning Grand Parade. Shortly after noon, the Ynares Center is expected to be filled with spectators, mostly students who will cheer their respective schools in the Drum and Lyre Competition, a much-awaited event in the city’s holiday celebration. Traditionally observed every Dec. 8, the city fiesta in honor of the Immaculate Conception is a festive event. Mayor Andrea Bautista Ynares and city officials are encouraging residents to witness the events scheduled throughout the month. Traffic personnel and village peacekeepers will augment the police force in enforcing peace and order during the celebration to ensure the safety of the visitors and the public.
