Image of child looking through screened door to get a glimpse of father-cop goes viral

BACOLOD CITY – A heart-tugging photo of a girl looking through a screened door just to get a glimpse of her father, a police officer who could not come near because he was in isolation for possible infection of the conoravirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), has gone viral here.

It was not a typical family photo, neither was it the happy and jovial kind, as P/Lt. Honey Labiro, 36, posted a photo of himself, eating outside their house while his nine-year-old daughter was looking at him from behind a screened door.
Labaro is on self-quarantine after a recent travel to Iloilo, where two confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded early this week.
He said he decided to isolate himself for 14 days because he feared for his family’s safety.
"I keep distance from my family because I'm afraid I may be a carrier, too,” he said.
“Natakot lang ako nung ma balitaan ko na dalawa na ang nag positive sa COVID-19 doon sa iloilo, nasa hotel pa kami nun naka stay nang mga kasama ko at hindi namin alam kung sino sino ang labas pasok doon sa hotel,” he added.
Labaro set up a tent outside their home, and he won’t be able to enter their home for the next two weeks.
He sleeps there and readies himself for work without saying anything to his child.
“My daughter was asking about my silence. She talks to me but I refused to say anything to her,” he said.
He was deployed in the province under the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nopppo) to augment with the police force here in police stations.
He is married to a police officer, and entered officership via lateral entry in March 2019 and graduated March this year.
He said his wife, who is assigned at the administrative branch at the Nocppo headquarters, was also practicing safety protocol by taking a shower and changing her clothes before entering their house to take care of their daughter.
“It’s our standard operating procedure,” he added.
He said he posted the photo on social media to encourage others to stay at home and follow the safety protocols.
“Please stay at home so that this pandemic will not last long. Because like you, we also love to go out with our family," he said.
