Ateneo tops PLAY GOLF match play elims

Home School Global also won two of their matches over the weekend against PAREF schools and British School Manila to land at second spot with 11 points.

Ateneo archrival De La Salle Zobel was deducted 0.5 and settled for third with 9.5 points after failing to field one of their players from their roster list.

Villaroman, meanwhile, is at No. 4.

The first four teams will be heading to the knockout round on Dec.7 and 8 at the Royal Northwoods.  Ateneo will be playing Villaroman while Home School Global will be up against De La Salle Zobel. The winner of the matches on Saturday will advance to the championship round the next day while the losers will fight for the last podium finish.

This will be again a test of strategy for Ateneo team manager Jong Castaneda as he decides on his lineup against the only team they did not beat. He, however, will surely rely on Rajah Crisostomo, Aenzo Sulaik, Race Manhit, Lujo Gomez, Javie Bautista, Juanton Cruz, Inigo Gallardo and Luis Espinosa.

Home School Global team manager Joey Anciano will also be challenged against coach Kristoffer Arevalo and De La Salle as he picks his weapons in Rafa Anciano, Jakob Taruc, Kami del Mundo, Keira Que, Chan Ahn, Halo Pangilinan, and the Garingalao sisters.

De La Salle has Rafa Leonio, TJ Padilla, Jacob Gomez, Gab Handog, Gab Pecjo, CC Gonzales, and Georgina Handog.

Villaroman Golf Academy, though at fourth, is still considered a tough team to beat especially if the crew is complete. International campaigners Celine Abalos, Charles Serdenio, Essa Janecek, Levonne Talion, Patrick Tambalque, Santino Pineda and Zach Villaroman and little kid Franco Estrella are expected to be selected for the knockout round,

“The seven day weekend matches were really amazing, team work among the junior golfers and even their parents were very prevalent. You will see a flock of golf carts per match and spectators increased as other matches were finished," said tournament director Cyna Rodriguez.
