Truck runs over scavenger who fell from a dump truck in Tondo

A double whammy.

A scavenger died after falling from a dump truck and being run over by a passing trailer truck in Tondo, Manila.

The Manila Police District identified the driver of the trailer truck as Jay Tomas, 27, a resident of Quezon City, who was identified with the help of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area.

According to the police report, the incident happened at noon on Jan. 12.

Police said Michael Comendador Porcadilla, 53, was collecting junk when he climbed onto the side of a stationary garbage truck that was collecting waste along Mel Lopez Boulevard near Capulong Road.

While he was atop the truck's dump box, Porcadilla suddenly fell to the ground.

The victim was hit by the left rear wheel of a tractor head and trailer which was traveling northbound.

Witnesses said that Tomas continued driving after accidentally hitting the victim.

The collision caused severe head injuries to the victim who died on-the-spot.

Tomas was detained for further investigation and filing of charges.
