More than 2,000 new voters register during extension period in Pateros

More than 2,000 people have registered as new voters and applied for other services in Pateros during the extension period set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

According to Armando Mallorca, Pateros election officer, a total of 2,088 applications were received by their office from Oct. 11 to 30 for the May 9, 2022 national and local elections, or an average of 116 new voters per day.

Mallorca said the total includes registration of first-time voters, application for transfer and reactivation of registration, and correction of wrong entries in the voter’s registration record (VRR).

There were 677 applications received in the first week from Oct. 11 to 16; 522 from Oct. 18 to 23; and 889 from Oct. 25 to 30. The Comelec opened Saturday registration to accommodate more new voters and other people.

Mallorca earlier noted that as of Oct. 18, the total registered voters in Pateros, the smallest local government unit in Metro Manila, stood at 37,385.

Meanwhile, the Comelec has released the tentative list of candidates for the 2022 elections including those in Pateros.

The list is based on Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) and Certificates of Nomination and Acceptance (CONAS) and Certificates of Nomination filed during the filing period Oct. 1-8.

“The contents of the list as uploaded are not yet final. We still have deadlines for requests for correction of names to appear on the ballot, and for substitution of official candidates due to withdrawal,” said spokesperson James Jimenez.

According to the Comelec, the last day to file a request for correction of names to appear on the ballot is on Nov. 8.

The deadline for the substitution of an official candidate of a political party or coalition is on Nov. 15.
