Guard killed in gasoline station robbery-slay

CEBU CITY—A 55-year-old security guard was killed, while at least P500,000 were stolen after a gasoline station was robbed in Naga City, southern Cebu.

          The body of Rogelio Librando Patatag of Multimodal Security and Investigations Agency was found in the comfort room of Seaoil Gasoline Station with gunshot wounds in the body and head.

          Police suspected that the victim was shot while manning the gas station before his body was brought to the toilet.        

          Some residents told the police that gunshots rang out from the gas station on Saturday night.

          Police Master Sgt. Jake Catane, investigator of the Naga Police Station, said the robbery was discovered when the gas station’s cashier reported for work past 6 a.m. last Sunday

          It was later discovered that gas station’s earnings for four days that were kept in a vault were missing.

Some former workers will be invited for questioning, said Police Col. Roderick Mariano, chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

“According to the investigation, there were former employees who knew the combination of the vault. There were no signs that the vault was destroyed so there was an indication that the one who took the money knew the vault’s combination,” said Mariano.

Mariano said the gas station had security cameras but the footage was blurry.

“We will check the security cameras of the nearby establishments,” Mariano said.

There could two to three persons involved in the robbery, police said.
