Recognizing the value of good nutrition among students, Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto said the project will benefit a total of 7,125 undernourished students from kinder to Grade 6; 6,095-day care students; and 4,905 supervised neighborhood and play children.
With the project, undernourished children will receive a food pack each for 12 weeks. The packs will contain rice and other fortified food products that would give them the nutrients they need to harness their full potential.
Sotto, with Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo, led the distribution of the family food packs to students at Nagpayong Elementary School on Thursday morning.
“Napakahalaga po ng tamang nutrisyon dahil ang nutrisyon po ang pundasyon ng kalusugan ng mga bata at ito rin po ang magiging susi upang makamit niya ang tunay na potensyal niya (Proper nutrition is very important because nutrition is the foundation of one’s health and this is also the key to reach their true potential),” Sotto said in his speech during the launch.
He said that the family food pack project will supplement the “Tsibug Pampalusog” program of the Department of Education and the feeding program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
The Pasig Family Food Pack project is a priority project of the City Nutrition Council in partnership with the City Health Office and the City Social Welfare and Development.
The food items were placed inside a white and blue canvass bags that only features the new branding of the city government that goes: “Lungsod ng Pasig, Umaagos ang Pag-asa.”
It is good to note that names or faces of politicians were not printed on the bag.
“Hindi po ako naglalagay ng mukha ko o ng pangalan ko sa mga ipinamimigay ng lokal na pamahalaan (I did not put my face or my name on things given by the local government),” Sotto asserted.
“Dahil hindi ko naman po pera ang ginagamit dito. Hindi po ito galing sa bulsa ko. pera po natin ito, pundo po ng taong bayan (Because it was not my money used to purchase these. These did not came from my pocket. This was from our money, from the funds of the people),” he added.
