Monsignor Rigoberto de Guzman will lead a concelebrated high mass at 9 a.m. today, November 23, at the Saint Clement Parish Church in Angono, Rizal, in solemn commemoration of the Feast of Saint Clement (San Clemente), the patron saint of fishermen.
The Eucharistic celebration will be streamed live. Inside the church, only about 200 persons will be allowed to observe physical distancing.
Novena masses were held from November 14 to 22.
Before the pandemic, a festive fluvial procession of the image of San Clemente was traditionally held after the fiesta mass.
San Clemente was considered to be the first Apostolic Father of the Church, one of the three chief ones together with Polycarp and Ignatius of Antioch. Few details are known about his life. San Clemente was the author of the Letter to the Corinthians.
Born in Rome, Italy, he lived during the time of Jesus Christ’s apostles and was ordained bishop by Saint Peter himself. He was elected as the fourth pope of the Roman Catholic Church in the year 91 and served as head of the Church until his martyrdom in the year 101.
