Massive Outage Hits Converge ICT for a 2nd Time this Month

It is normal for any internet service provider (ISP) to have unscheduled outage from time to time. But for the second time this month, Converge ICT Solutions (Converge) has encountered a massive outage affecting a vast majority of their subscribers.

Last 07 November 2020 at around 4:35 PM, Converge subscribers suddenly experienced a Loss of Signal (LOS) as indicated on their modems. The outage lasted for six (06) hours affecting Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and parts of Southern Luzon.

Then, again, this afternoon at around 1:15 PM, another massive outage has hit Converge subscribers nationwide. As of 5:00 PM, Internet services from the company is still down. A post in the official social media account of Converge said that there are experiencing issues in their Data Center since 1:10 PM. According to sources, the ISP’s data center is currently having a power failure/issue.

The on-going Converge outage is so bad that even the budget proceedings at the Philippine Senate was affected, prompting this afternoon’s session to be suspended according to a report from ABS-CBN News.

How to Detect & Report ISP Outage?

Aside from posting and checking on social media networks, you may use services like DownDetector.com and Fing.com to know if your ISP is really down (or is it just you).

DownDetector.com provides crowdsourced data on outages not just of ISPs but also of other websites and services like Google, Netflix, and the like.

On the other hand, Fing.com relies on a network of probes installed on user computers and devices from all over the world. The probe sends an automatic ping across its network and determines if there is an outage in real-time.

Other ISPs were Also Down?

Earlier, DownDetector.com reported that Globe and PLDT were also down (around 2:35 PM). People need to understand that the reports from the said website are based on crowdsourced data.

According to Globe Telecom, there is no network outage in Metro Manila (NCR) today.
