Only 46 of 7,701 COVID-19 patients avail of PhilHealth benefits in Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY - Only 46 out of 7,701 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Eastern Visayas have availed of benefits from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), as of November 4. Â

Dr. Rosario Suyom, acting regional vice president for Region 8, shared that while a continuous spike of COVID-19 cases has been reported by the Department of Health (DOH), about 76 percent of them were asymptomatic, and did not need to be admitted to a health facility.

"Some of the COVID-19 patients are still in the process of claiming their PhilHealth benefits while others need not avail of the package," she explained.

Based on DOH-8 data, only .62 percent of the COVID-19 patients were severe, while.50 percent were critical.

Over P1.1 million have already been paid by PhilHealth to facilities that cater to COVID-19 patients. Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) here had the most number of claimants with 19 patients with P633,000.

Ormoc City Ligtas COVID Center had 12 claimants with P269,000, and Divine Word Hospital with 11 claimants with P66,000 worth of benefits.

A total of 1,399 hospitals and other healthcare facilities in the region are PhilHealth accredited that cater to over three million members. About 67 percent of them are indirect contributors or indigents.

Suyom also said their COVID-19 packages ranged from P43,997 for mild pneumonia for the elderly or those with co-existing conditions to P786,384 for critical pneumonia. Their COVID-19 testing package is now as low as P901 to P3,409 as approved by the Board of Directors as of June 2.
