Comelec urges PBA players to promote ongoing voter registration

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has asked the Philippine Basketball Association to help promote the ongoing voter registration.

Poll Commissioner Rowena Guanzon issued the call to the PBA in her Twitter account Wednesday.

"@pbaconnect, please advertise voter registration in the games," she said @rowena_guanzon.

Guanzon even posted a picture of the promotion of voter registration done in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the United States (US) as an example.

The poll official believes the move will encouraged many to register since many Filipinos watch basketball.

"Basketball is the Filipinos' most watched game. An ad promoting voter registration in PBA games will certainly encourage people to register for 2022," Guanzon said in a separate interview.

Voter registration for the May, 2022 polls already resumed last September 1 except in areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) or Modified ECQ.

The poll body said voter registration will automatically resume in areas under ECQ or MECQ once the
quarantine status is either downgraded to general community quarantine (GCQ) or modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), or if quarantine is lifted entirely.

According to the Comelec, applications for registration may be submitted from Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Office of the Election Officer.
