PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan – This city will not be sending a delegation to the Mindoro-Marinduque-Romblon-Palawan (Mimaropa) athletic meet slated in Romblon from April 15 to 19 as a precaution against the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Councilor Henry Gadiano said the decision was made during the special meeting held by Mayor Lucilo Bayron recently with officials from the local Department of Education (DepEd) and City Health Officer (CHO).
The council has also passed a resolution conveying the city’s stand not to send a delegation to the Romblon meet.
“During the recent meeting, we decided not to send a delegate in the sports event in light of the coronavirus disease. As far as the Sanggunian is concerned, we are objecting (any move to) send our athletes to the competition,” Gadiano said.
“We are not ready to face coronavirus, we do not want it to enter in the city and it’s so risky,” Gadiano added.
Aside from this, many events have been canceled in the city due to the virus.
“We canceled other events [in the city). We need to do this in order to prevent the possible spread of the virus,” City Mayor Lucilo Bayron said.
