Two persons died, while 15 were injured in a road accident involving a jeepney and a dump truck along Marcos Highway in Pasig Wednesday evening.
The fatalities were identified as Jenny Ann Colinares Clarino, 21, student; and Joseph Andaya Amor, 45, a construction worker.
The jeepney driver, Jay R Labitag Gangan, was among the 15 injured in the accident.
The injured passengers were sent to Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center, Pasig City General Hospital, and other nearby hospitals.
The accident happened at around 11:25 pm, Wednesday, along the eastbound lane of Marcos Highway in front of Ayala Mall Feliz, Pasig Police Chief, PCol Moises Villaceran Jr. told CNN Philippines Thursday.
Villaceran said Gangan was racing with another jeepney to get passengers and hit the dump truck which was illegally parked along the highway.
"Ginawa niy,a nang makita niya na may isang jeepney na kukuha na sa pasahero, binilisan niya ang takbo niya, nag overtake siya sa right side not knowing, na bulaga siya na may naka park pala na dump truck," Villaceran said.
Villaceran said charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property will be filed against Gangan.
The driver of the dump truck, Crisanto Salvador Fajanilla, will also be investigated, the Pasig Police chief said. (With a report from John Aldrin Casinas)
