Merida, Leyte observes 153rd anniversary with 1st Magsanga Festival

MERIDA, Leyte - This municipality launched its first town’s festival dubbed Magsanga Festival last March 2, 2020, to coincide with its 153rd founding anniversary.

Merida Mayor Engr. Roland M. Villasencio lauded the various sectors of his town for the inaugural staging of the festival which aims to promote their town's rich cultural heritage and tourism sites.
Villasencio said Magsanga was named after their two mountains which was the reference point in locating the town in the past.
He expressed his thanks to Leyte Department of Education (DepED) Superintendent Dr. Manuel Albano, Mayor Jun Medina of Isabel, Leyte and Ormoc City Mayor Richard I. Gomez for their support of the town's festival which drew thousands of people from all walks of life from various municipalities of the province.
Gomez, in turn, has invited Villasencio to send a contingent from Merida which will compete in the coming Piña Festival of Ormoc City come June.
Students from the different elementary schools were clustered into four groups and compete in the parade and dance competition showing their tribes.
Tribu Dimaculandog of Cluster 2 won the P300,000 grand prize.
During the festival, Mayor Villasencio, together with Vice Mayor Rudy Wenceslao and members of the Sangguniang Bayan, also launched the Merida Hymn.
