ILOILO CIT Y - Eighteen New People’s Army (NPA) rebels recently surrendered in Negros Oriental.
(MANILA BULLETIN)
Lieutenant Colonel Egberto Dacoscos, commanding officer of the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (62 IB), said the 18 rebels took their oath of allegiance during a recent ceremony in Himamaylan City.
“Their surrender is a clear indication that they can no longer endure the barbarism and viciousness inflicted to them by this terrorist organization who only feeds them with nothing but poverty and misery,” Dacoscos said.
The former communist rebels are now beneficiaries of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), which is designed to integrate them back into society.
With the latest development, the Philippine Army is urging other NPA rebels to give up their armed struggle.
“We are calling the remaining supporters and active members of the NPA to lay down their arms and abandon the senseless and failed armed-struggle and return to the folds of the government,” Dacoscos said.
“The E-CLIP is there for you to start a new and peaceful life together with your family,” he added.
