Hundreds of families face demolition in Taguig

Hundreds of families occupying land owned by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) in Bgy. Ususan, Taguig are facing demolition.

In a notice, residents of Pamayanang Diego Silang were advised to voluntarily demolish their houses and leave the area. 

“Nais naming ipaalam sa inyo na kayo ay ilegal na umuukupa at nagtayo ng istraktura sa lupang pag-aari ng Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) na napapaloob sa Transfer Certificate of Title Nos. 28686, 38826, 28678 at 164-2010000089 (You are informed that you are illegally occupying and built structures on a land owned by the  Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) under Transfer Certificate of Title Nos. 28686, 38826, 28678 at 164-2010000089),” the notice read. 

It added that to fulfill the requirements needed to get a Certificate of Compliance (COC) from the Local Housing Board (LHB) of Taguig, the residents are given 30 days or until Feb. 22 to leave the place and demolish their houses. 

“Ang hindi ninyo pagtalima sa abisong ito ay magiging sanhi ng demolisyon ng inyong itinayong istruktura (Failure to comply with this notice will cause the demolition of the structures that you built),” according to the notice. 

The notice bore the official logos of different government agencies including the BCDA, Taguig City government, Philippine National Police, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). 

Residents of the Maysapang, Taguig are calling on Mayor Lino Cayetano to help them and denounced the removal of streamers allegedly by city employees. 

Members of the Nagkakaisang Residente Maysapang Homeowners Association said they have been living in the area for three decades and about 2,000 individuals will be affected by the demolition.  

The residents said the demolition notice was posted after a consultation with them was held on Jan. 21. 

“Sino ang signatory ng tarp yung mga logo ng ahensya ng gobyerno na nakapaskil? Wala naman court order na nakalagay upang magbilang ng 30 days agad-agad! (Who is the signatory in the tarp, the government agencies whose logos are in the notice? There is no court order to count the 30 days),” the residents association posted on its Facebook page.  

The association said they want the Taguig City government to answer the letters they have sent regarding their predicament. The association has sent numerous letters to Mayor Cayetano and former mayor Lani Cayetano but they didn’t get any response.
