By Alexandria Dennise San Juan The Quezon City Health Department conducted a surprise inspection at a slaughterhouse in Barangay Sangandaan which was found out to be operating despite the closure order issued by the local government. It appears that the QC Business Permit and Licensing Office already ordered the slaughterhouse to be shut down on May 30 for violating City Ordinance 2505-2016 or the QC Veterinary Code. "The holding area for the pigs is inside. It should be 10-15 feet away from the slaughterhouse. The tiles are also slippery and the pig's blood and feces were scattered all over the floor," Eleria said. She also mentioned that the butchers’ clothes were also seen hanging improperly in the abattoir, while the meat was not certified by the National Meat Inspection Service. The City Health Department added that the slaughterhouse did not have a sewerage treatment tank. It was also found out that since 2015, the Labudahon Slaughterhouse failed to secure a sanitary permit from Quezon City Hall. Eleria said the City Health Department already spoke to representatives of Labudahon but the establishment has still not complied with the city’s standards. "There were a series of visits before an establishment can be closed. There is a first visit, there is a second visit, so they still have the time to comply. But, if we know that the establishment is already hazardous, we will order for its immediate closure," she explained. The QCHD assured that the slaughterhouse will now be shut down complete
