The additional 700-meter portion of Mindanao Avenue Extension stretches from P. Dela Cruz Street to MGM Road in Valenzuela City, Department of Public Works and Highways-National Capital Region Director Melvin Navarro said.
“With the completion of additional eight-lane, or four lanes per direction from P. Dela Cruz Street to MGM Road, we reduce travel time from 30 minutes to just three to six minutes from the intersection of P. Dela Cruz to General Luis, Valenzuela City,” Navarro said.
The newly-completed segment is part of the remaining 1.7-kilometer road improvement at Mindanao Avenue Extension in Caloocan and Valenzuela City under the P118-million Segment 2-C that is now 68.75 percent completed.
The additional portion, the agency said, will also improve travel from Quezon City going to the North Luzon Expressway.
“The goal of this project is to decongest traffic within the vicinity from Quezon City particularly Novaliches, Valenzuela and Caloocan City, and vice versa,” said Director Navarro.
The construction of the 3.2-kilometer Mindanao Avenue Extension Project resumed in 2017, after being halted for years due to road right-of-way issues.
A total of a 1.4-kilometer portion of the road was completed in 2014.
The road project also covers drainage, slope protection, street lighting, center island and sidewalks component for the safety of road users, Navarro said.
