More than 1,200 runners from 33 government agencies and disaster management institutions joined fun run (3K) and race (5K and 10K). NDRRMC Chairperson and National Defense Secretary Delfin N Lorenzana, himself led the fun run together with DND Undersecretaries and Assistant Secretaries, and heads of invited Agencies.
Prizes were conferred to the top three winners of the race categories under the Women-40 below, Women-40 and above, Male-40 below, and Male-40 and above subcategories. First, second, and third place winners will receive P10, 000, P8, 000 and P5, 000 cash respectively.
The Run for Resilience is the opening activity of the NDRM 2018 conducted simultaneously across all regions through the OCD Regional Offices. With the theme: KATATAGAN SA KALAMIDAD ay Makakamtan Kapag Sapat ang Kaalaman sa Kahandaan, several activities are lined up for this month as part of the continuous efforts to promote and build national resilience.
The resilience mobile photography, essay writing contest, and poster making contest are among the scheduled activities at the national level.
Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana conferred medals to the race winners and plaques of appreciation to the MMDA, AFP, and DOH-HEMB in appreciation of their contributions to the success of the event.
In his message, Lorenzana encouraged everyone to commit to building resilient Filipino communities by empowering individuals.
“The responsibility in disaster risk management does not lie on DND, NDRRMC, and OCD alone. It is everyone’s concern, hence citizens, political leaders, government institutions, private organizations, and civil society organizations must work toward having a resilience nation,” Lorenzana said.
Executive Order Number 29 dated June 28, 2017 mandates the observance the National Disaster Resilience Month throughout the country through the conduct of activities relative to building disaster resilience covering the four thematic areas namely disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response and disaster rehabilitation and recovery.
