ILIGAN CITY – A church and four houses were burned at Zone 2, Limonda, Opol, Misamis Oriental, 3:30 am May 28, Thursday.
(Opol, MPS / MANILA BULLETIN)
Opol Municipal Police Station Chief Major Evary E. Bacunawa said a Christian church and the houses owned by Edward Villiarias, Ronny Tingkang, Edmar Burlat and Avilino Sambulay were intentionally set on fire by more or less 10 fully armed men believed to be members of a New People’s Army (NPA) group, led by a certain Ace Coy.
Bacunawa said the NPA’s nefarious activity was a clear manifestation of their motive to pursue their lawless acts, and add burden and suffering to the people who are already reeling from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“These atrocities are contrary to their claim of protecting the people,” he said.
Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Police Office Director Colonel Robert Roy V. Bahian assured the public that security measures were being implemented to ensure the safety of all potential targets, including government installations, places of convergence, power lines, private companies and all police stations within the province.
