Police, soldiers rescued 2 kidnap victims in Sulu

By Nonoy Lacson ZAMBOANGA CITY — Police and military authorities safely rescued two relatives of a top politician of Talipao, Sulu, 17 hours after they were abducted by suspected Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) gunmen at dawn Wednesday. Chief Inspector Napoleon Lango said police and soldiers were backed up by members of the Barangay Police Action Team (BPAT) in rescuing Edelyn Tulawi, a half-sister of Talipao Mayor Nezar Tulawi; and her mother, Addang Tulawi, at the boundary of Barangays Sinumaan and Kagay in Talipao. “I was the one who personally led the rescue operations team composed of about 63 police personnel and we rescued Edelyn and her mother Eddang at about 8 p.m. in the village of Sinumaan and Kagay in Talipao,” said Lango, the town’s chief of police. A military report reaching this city indicated that about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, armed men barged into the Tulawi’s residence located at the boundary of Barangay Kandaga and Kuhaw in Talipao, Sulu and took Edelyn and Addang. Later at 6 p.m., Lango said they received information from Mayor Tulawi that some residents of the village spotted Edelyn and Eddang in the vicinity. Wasting no time, police immediately proceeded to the village and scoured the area that led to the recovery of the two victims, Lango said. According to Lango, they immediately secured both victims and took them to the residence of former Talipao Mayor Tamrin Tulawi.
